Ministry of Transport announced today that it will carry out pilot work on a new generation of national traffic control networks and smart highways in terms of autonomous driving.

Ministry of Transport announced today that it will carry out pilot work on a new generation of national traffic control networks and smart highways in terms of autonomous driving.

This will promote the application of technologies such as 5G communications and Beidou Satallite Navigation system around cutting-edge technologies such as infrastructure intelligence, land transportation integration, and vehicle-road collaboration.

It will also work with Beijing, Shanghai, Hebei and some other places to promote a batch of pilot projects for autonomous driving and vehicle-road collaboration on the Jingli Expressway, Donghai Bridge, and Xiong’an New District.

The department has identified 6 closed-site test bases nationwide to improve the safety of road testing and strengthen R&D testing of vehicle-road cooperative autonomous driving.
