China Baowu tops global steel output for the first time

China Baowu Steel Group Corporation Limited achieved an output of 95.22 million tons of crude steel in 2019 and finally knocked ArcelorMittal from the top whose 2019 production was 89,80 million tons, said Chen Derong, chairman of China Baowu, in Shanghai on March 4.

Since its foundation through the merger of Wuhan Iron & Steel and Baoshan Iron & Steel in 2016, Baowu was China’s top steelmaker and the world’s second-largest steelmaker following after ArcelorMittal in annual crude steel output.
