China’s State Post Bureau recently solicited opinions from the public on green packaging specifications for express delivery.

According to the requirements, the green packaging specifications should adhere to the principle of standardizing the process, reducing and recycling the packaging materials.

The delivery companies should purchase and use packaging products that conform to the quality standards of the country and the industry. The purchaser of packaging products should require the supplier to provide a compliance test report issued by a qualified third-party testing agency.

The delivery companies must not use toxic substances like expanded polystyrene that are harmful to human health and the environment as filling materials. It is their responsibility to take adequate measures to reduce the use of styrofoam boxes gradually.

Besides, the draft for green packaging specifications encourages the use of recyclable bulk bags and proposes to ban disposable plastic bags step by step in the future. Plastic woven bags are required to be used for no less than 20 times, and bags made from other materials used for no less than 50 times.
