World Bank hands out US$150 mln loan to help Hubei develop sustainable, smart agriculture

On May 21, 2020, the executive board of the World Bank approved a loan of 136.5 million euros (US$150 million) to China for safe, sustainable, and smart agriculture projects in Hubei Province to promote environmentally sustainable and climate-smart agriculture, To improve the quality of agricultural products and food safety.

Martin Raiser, World Bank’s country director for China, said that this project will be the first to combine agricultural production quality and safety interventions with the practice of Climate-Smart Agriculture .

The project is expected to produce important climate synergies (climate co-benefits) and contribute to China’s fulfillment of commitments such as the Paris Agreement.
