According to the annual survey by the China Chain-Store & Franchise Association (CCFA), the sales scale of the top 100 Chinese supermarkets in 2019 was 979.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%. It accounts for about 18.1% of total social food retail sales for the whole year.

The total number of stores in the top 100 supermarket companies was 26,000, an increase of 6.6% over the previous year.

The top 100 supermarkets are dominated by regional enterprises. There are only 54 stores operated in its own province; only 10 companies cover 20 or more provincial areas.

The scale of the top 100 supermarket companies varies greatly. CR Vanguard ranked first with 95.1 billion yuan; 21 companies with sales exceeding 10 billion yuan and 63 companies with sales below 5 billion yuan.

The sales of the top ten enterprises reached 580.9 billion yuan, accounting for 59.3% of the total sales of the top 100 enterprises, with a relatively obvious industry concentration.

Hema Supermarket has the fastest annual sales growth, with a year-on-year increase of 185.7%; the highest single-store sales is Chengdu Ito Yanghuatang, with an average sales of about 670 million yuan per store.

There are only five companies with more than a thousand stores, namely CR Vanguard, Yonghui, Lianhua, Century Hualian and Chengdu Hongqi.

In 2019, there are a total of 21 companies in the top 100 supermarkets that have achieved double-digit growth in sales with their stores.

There are 15 companies whose sales and number of stores have decreased compared with the previous year.

The year-on-year sales decreased by 22, and the number of stores decreased by 27. The main businesses are large supermarkets.

The top 100 average human efficiency (average daily sales per person) exceeded one million yuan, reaching 1.004 million yuan/person, an increase of 21,000 yuan/person over the previous year.

From the perspective of regional distribution, the human efficiency in the eastern region is significantly higher than that in the central and western regions, and the human efficiency in the first- and second-tier cities is significantly higher than that in the third- and fourth-tier cities.

In 2019, the consumption of top 100 members has accounted for 55.7% of the total sales of top 100 supermarkets, an increase of 2.4 percentage points from the previous year. Members accounted for 50.0% of visits to offline stores, an increase of 2.1 percentage points from the previous year.

In 2019, the top 100 private brand development efforts have been further strengthened. Each company has an average of 865 private brand SKUs, an increase of 32.3% over the previous year, and the sales share has increased from 3.2% to 4.1%, an average increase of 28.1% .
