China’s plastic packaging industry import and export in 2020

According to China Packaging Federation (CPF) data, the total import and export volume of China’s plastic packaging industry in 2019 was 35.134 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 4.55%.

According to China Packaging Federation (CPF) data, the total import and export volume of China’s plastic packaging industry in 2019 was 35.134 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 4.55%.

Among them, the import value was US$12.548 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 1.10%; the export value was US$22.586 billion, an increase of 7.97% year-on-year; the trade surplus was US$10.038 billion, an increase of 21.97% year-on-year.

2. The proportion of imports from Japan exceeds 30%

From 2015 to 2019, the import volume of China’s plastic packaging industry as a whole fluctuated.

In 2018, the total import volume of China’s plastic packaging industry was 12.688 billion US dollars, an increase of 7.19% year-on-year, the highest in recent years.

In 2019, the total import volume of the plastic packaging industry was US$12.548 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 1.10%.

According to importing countries, the top five countries and regions in the plastic packaging industry in terms of import volume in 2019 are Japan, South Korea, the United States, Taiwan, and Germany.

Among them, the cumulative import value from Japan was 4.187 billion US dollars, accounting for 33.37% of the total imports. The import value was basically the same as that in 2018.

The cumulative import value from South Korea was 2.632 billion US dollars, accounting for 20.98% of the total imports, a year-on-year increase of 4.29%.

The total imports from the United States totaled US$1.612 billion, accounting for 12.85% of the total imports, a year-on-year decrease of 5.23%.

The total imports from Taiwan totaled 1.184 billion US dollars, accounting for 9.44%, down 10.79% year-on-year.

The cumulative import value from Germany was US$568 million, accounting for 4.53%, a year-on-year decrease of 6.8%.

3. Exports have risen for three consecutive years

From 2015 to 2019, the export value of China’s plastic packaging industry as a whole declined first and then increased.

In 2016, the export value of China’s plastic packaging industry was 17.334 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 5.44%, the lowest value in recent years.

In 2019, the export value of the plastic packaging industry reached US$22.586 billion, a year-on-year increase of 7.97%. The export value was the highest in recent years.

The top five countries and regions in the plastic packaging industry in terms of export value in 2019 are the United States, Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea.

Among them, the cumulative export value to the United States in 2019 was US$31.22, accounting for 13.82% of the total export value, a year-on-year decrease of 14.06%;

The cumulative export value to Vietnam was 1.66 billion US dollars, accounting for 7.35% of the total export value, a year-on-year increase of 41.49%.

The cumulative export value to Japan was US$1.558 billion, accounting for 6.9%, a year-on-year decrease of 3.86%.

The cumulative export value to Hong Kong, China was 971 million US dollars, accounting for 4.3%, down 20.13% year-on-year.

The cumulative export value to South Korea was US$907 million, accounting for 4.02%, a year-on-year increase of 16.98%.
