Alibaba releases report on poverty alleviation in 2020: 10 million people covered

The report shows that in the past two and a half years, Alibaba’s Internet poverty alleviation model has covered nearly 10 million people in poverty-stricken areas.

On July 15, Alibaba released its report on poverty alleviation in 2020.

The report shows that in the past two and a half years, Alibaba’s Internet poverty alleviation model has covered nearly 10 million people in poverty-stricken areas.

The Internet has created a new model of getting rich in the countryside, and encouraged young people to return to the countryside and use new technologies to get rid of poverty and get rich. They can open a Taobao shop, be a farmer anchor on a live broadcast channel, work as an artificial intelligence trainer, use AI technology to raise sheep and bee to get rich.

Returning to the village to become rich is becoming a new trend for them. Mobile phones became new agricultural tools, live broadcasting became new agricultural activities, and data became new agricultural resources.

The data shows that since the establishment of the Alibaba Poverty Alleviation Fund in December 2017, as of now, 832 national-level poverty-stricken counties have exceeded 200 billion yuan in Internet sales on Alibaba’s platform.

In March 2019, Alibaba launched the “Village Broadcasting Plan”. Up to now, it has covered more than 2,000 counties in 31 provinces, districts, and cities across the country, and has accumulatively conducted 2.4 million live broadcasts, driving agricultural product sales to 8 billion yuan.

There have been 90,000 farmer anchors in Taobao’s live broadcast rooms. In the past three months, the number of farmer anchors has increased by nearly 50%.

On July 15th, Alibaba will host a special action for poverty alleviation live broadcast, and 100,000 Taobao live broadcast rooms will jointly help alleviate poverty.

Data show that as of now, Alibaba’s different poverty alleviation programs for women have covered nearly 1.2 million people in poverty-stricken areas.

According to statistics, in the past five years, Jack Ma’s rural education program directly funded 500 rural teachers, 60 rural principals, and 200 rural normal students, directly benefiting nearly 110,000 students.

Among them, 79% of the candidates were from national-level poor counties, covering a total of 312 national-level poor counties. The Joe Tsai Foundation’s vocational education program has served more than 10,000 students in 27 impoverished counties through quality development, skill competitions, and employment training.

The “energy harvesting” in Alibaba’s online module “Ant Forest” can also help people increase their income. In terms of ecological poverty alleviation, as of May 2020, 550 million people had planted 200 million trees through the “Ant Forest”, creating a total of 650,000 green jobs, and realized an increase in labor services of nearly 97.5 million yuan.

The charitable donations generated by Taobao can also help the poor households who have filed a card to have a health guarantee.

Up to now, the “Dingliangzhu Health and Poverty Alleviation Public Welfare Insurance” project has provided health protection for 4.58 million poor households with registered cards, covering 12 provinces and 80 poor counties.

In order to more deeply help the popularization of the Internet model, not long ago, Alibaba also sent 11 senior employees to continue to work in poverty-stricken counties as poverty alleviation commissioners to participate in local poverty alleviation work.

In December 2017, Alibaba established a poverty alleviation fund and announced that it will invest 10 billion yuan to help combat poverty in the next five years.

It mentioned that in more than two years, the Alibaba Poverty Alleviation Fund has pioneered a sustainable, participable, and referenceable Internet poverty alleviation model in five directions: e-commerce, ecology, health, education, and women.
