At the keynote speech of Xiaomi’s 10th anniversary, Lei Jun, the founder, President and CEO of Xiaomi, said that Xiaomi would be highly engaged in the manufacturing industry on the basis of continuous cooperation with the OEMs.

The newly unveiled Mi 10 Ultra with a transparent rear cover is produced exactly in Xiaomi’s own smart factory.

According to Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s smart factory is located in Yizhuang District, Beijing Municipality, covering an area of 18,600 square meters. The factory can be operated 24 hours in the dark, with no need to turn on the lights and no human operators.

Currently, the factory undertakes three roles, that is, as an automatically operated factory to produce millions of smartphones per year; as a mega laboratory for the R&D of new processes, new materials and new technologies; and as an experimental base of manufacturing equipment and automated production lines.

Lei Jun also revealed that Xiaomi’s smart factory would be extended in the next three years.

According to the smartphone market analysis report released by Canalys, the shipments of Xiaomi’s smartphone reach 28.8 million units for the second quarter of 2020, which rank fourth in the global shipments. Huawei’s smartphone shipments exceed 55 million units and rank first.

Adding the shipments of the first quarter of the year, Xiaomi smartphone’s shipments total more than 56.6 million units.
