The first high-end smart electric vehicle under the so-called CHN framework jointly created by Changan Automobile, Huawei, and CATL will be released at the end of this year, said Wang Jun, President of Changan Automobile, today.

Insiders of Changan Automobile told the media that while Huawei has strong end-to-end technology, it requires more substantial applications. Meanwhile, the hardware and technology of Changan and CATL have been applied and verified through mass production.

Wang said that this is “a brand-new architecture, a brand-new platform, a brand-new product, integrating brand-new technologies.”

It is reported that the cooperation between the trio began in the fourth quarter of 2020. The project code is “CHN Project,” taken from the English initials of the three companies.

The project aims to develop platform technologies such as automotive application ecosystem, Vehicle OS, computing and communication architecture, high-voltage systems, and chassis Chassis mechanical systems based on the capabilities of the three parties.

The parties plan to build a high-end smart car brand, a smart electric car platform, a series of smart car products, and a smart energy ecosystem.

At Auto Shanghai yesterday, Zhu Huarong, Changan Automobile’s Chairman, said that the company would build three platforms, EPA0, EPA1, and EPA2, based on its Ark Architecture and CHN Architecture.

In the next 5 years, it will launch 26 new smart electric vehicle models. The carmaker will unveil the first two smart electric vehicles this year, and the new high-end brand names created by Huawei and CATL will be announced soon.

Besides, Changan Automobile also announced that during China’s 14th Five-Year Plan period, it plans to invest 150 billion yuan as a whole to focus on software, intelligent technology, and other sectors.

Changan Automobile plans to implement 1 to 2 leading smart vehicle applications every year, and by 2022, it will be among the first carmakers to achieve L4-level smart connected cars on the market.
